Anti-Trump marchers take to the San Antonio streets earlier this summer.

Texas parents angered and concerned about the catastrophic Hill Country flooding that killed at least 135 people, including many children, are taking their frustrations directly to the White House.

On Monday, July 27, Lone Star State parents and their supporters organized by Texas Moms Rising will gather in Lafayette Park, just outside the White House, to remember the 27 children who recently died in the flooding.

In addition to remembering the victims of this tragedy, this event will call attention to Trump administration’s drastic cuts to essential weather warning systems including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service, not to mention the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Homeland Security head Kristi Noem implemented new red tape for approving FEMA funds, potentially slowing the agency’s response to the Texas floods. Meanwhile, U.S. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, added a provision to Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” that cut $200 million in NOAA funds specifically marked for extreme weather forecasting and public alerts.

“We know that this administration, by destroying renewable energy and using our tax dollars to prop up the fossil fuel industry … is doing everything it can to supercharge this climate crisis,” Samantha Gore, an organizer of the Texas parents’ DC protest, told MSNBC.

Funds are available to cover travel to DC and to pay for lodging and food for Texas family members and advocates who wish to attend and make their voices heard. More information on the event, including how to apply for funding is available online.

“To also be defunding our NWS and NOAA, the agencies we use to keep our children safe at the same time is unthinkable.  How dare they,” Gore further told MSNBC. “Parents won’t sit back while our children die from floods that shouldn’t have been supercharged, from DOGE cuts that put their lives on the line and from weather services not being funded.”
